KAREN McKEEN
WRITER
PRODUCER
DIRECTOR
EDUCATOR

I’m a filmmaker drawn to the quiet moments that reveal who we are. The spaces between words, the way light falls on someone’s face when they finally tell the truth. My work lives in those in-between spaces, where relationships shift, fracture, and sometimes survive when we choose to live honestly.
Each project is part of an ongoing search for meaning, connection, and the beauty tucked inside imperfection. I move between narrative, commercial and documentary with ease. I am drawn to real people, lived experience, and stories rooted an emotional truth.
Whether it’s in my Introduction to Producing classroom at Emerson College, the salt air of Provincetown, or a fleeting glance across a room, I’m interested in what it feels like to be alive and uncertain, to love and to lose, and to keep reaching anyway.
Through my films and my teaching, I create spaces for curiosity, empathy, and conversation. I believe cinema is both an art form and a practice. Something you learn by doing, questioning, and paying attention.
I’m always seeking collaborators, funders, and fellow dreamers who believe in the quiet power of film to move hearts, shift perspectives, and change the way we see one another.
